Grants and Bursaries
Who can apply: Applications are open to undergraduate, master's, PhD and other applicants working on research projects with a clear scientific focus. Applicants do not need to be Fellows to apply, but successful applicants must become Fellows to receive the grant. Student projects must be separate/additional to the degree. The Society does not fund general student expeditions, tuition fees, taught master's programmes, conference attendance, open access publishing costs, undergraduate field mapping projects, or subsistence except in limited cases.
Deadline: The grants cycle opens in autumn each year. The 2025-26 research grants and bursaries call closed on 9 February 2026.
