PAUSE programme co-funding for host institutions hosting scientists and artists in exile
Who can apply: The host institution must be an eligible French higher education, research or cultural institution and must commit to recruiting and partially financing the beneficiary. Beneficiaries must be foreign doctoral students with interrupted theses, researchers, research fellows, teacher-researchers, artists or artist-teachers from outside the EU who are in an urgent situation due to conflict, persecution or threats connected to their identity, opinions, sexuality, or research/teaching content. Applicants must be forced into exile or have been in France for less than three years and must not be older than retirement age. Economic emergency alone is not eligible. Applications are assessed on urgency, project quality, and the quality of the social and professional support plan.
Deadline: Next listed institutional call opens at the end of August 2026 and closes September 24, 2026. PAUSE also normally holds three annual application sessions; emergency applications may be submitted separately when immediate danger exists.
